Tobey: Apple doesn't fall far from the grandtree
Tobey was playing with my retro diner bell and said this:Mommy, when you ring the bell, the metal on the bell wiggles really fast and that's what makes the ding sound. When I ring the bell but put my hand on the bell, then the bell can't wiggle which is why the bell doesn't ding!Methinks Tobey hung around Yeh-Yeh, the retired physics professor, a wee too much last weekend.
The fascinating part is that I don't remember YY telling Tobey about the bell. I do remember Yeh-Yeh telling the boys about our plastic stretchable tube and how the reason why the sound that it makes when you stretch it changes from high pitched to low pitch is because the enclosed space that makes the sound gets bigger and the soundwaves get longer and lower (see? I don't even understand it because my explanation sounds ridiculous). And when you curl the tube into an enclosed donut and then stretch it, we don't hear any sound because the soundwaves can't escape and get to your ear.
I think this is why I got a C in physics.
