Eli: Doesn't like bassinet?
Eli seems to sleep like a dream in the daytime whether it's on our futon, on the floor mat, being held or in the bouncey. But when it comes to nighttime sleeping in his bassinet (the insert in the pack-n-play), he doesn't seem to last that long. Often he starts crying after 20 min. or even seconds after we put him in already konked out. I'm sure there are ways we can get him to sleep but we want nighttime to be in the pack-n-play, his bed for the next several months.
My mom's theory is that the bassinet insert is kind of suspended and therefore feels a bit unstable. If Eli moves, the whole thing kind of swings with him. Also, being navy blue against a brown wall in a nighttime dark room, it's a pretty dark existence whereas all of his daytime sleeping is out in the open in the rest of the house (funny, I thought I used to put him down for naps in the bassinet in the daytime too but I guess I haven't done that since my mom came into town). My mom also seemed to remember that we put something underneath the bassinet insert with Tobey so that we weren't depending on the suspension design of the insert to support the baby. So Tom put our big suitcase underneath the insert last night.
Hard to say if it helped as he still woke up every 3 hours to eat and one of those times, he cried after 1 hour of being in the bassinet. Actually, it's hard to say if the bassinet is to blame at all. Maybe it's our perception that he doesn't sleep well in it because our hope/expectation is that he sleeps more than 3 hours in it at night whereas a 2-3 hour nap in the daytime seems like forever. Sigh -- newborn sleeping. Of course he's sleeping like a charm right now in the carseat...then again, it's daytime.
