Tobey: Self-sufficiency
Tobey's gotten so self-sufficient lately. I imagine that someday if I happen to pass out ill, he'll just go about his day by himself and I won't be discovered on the floor until Tom comes back from work.
Actually, that almost happened that day that I fell twice and was emotionally exhausted. I konked out during a midday Thomas showing (Eli must have been napping), Tobey turned off the TV himself and fed himself lunch from his breakfast leftovers still sitting on the table. I guess I wasn't imagining that I was unnecessary.
Lately, he likes washing his hands by himself now that he can reach the faucet with a stepstool. It's nice also because now that Eli is getting sick again, I can send Tobey off to wash his own hands as often as he (and I) like without me helping. He can get his shoes on himself (with varying amounts of ease and frustration) although putting on his own clothes still needs a lot of work.
Tobey can also reach for things near the edge of the counter and now also the middle ever since he discovered he can bring a dining chair over to give him a higher boost. He can open the fridge himself and probably find his "white cheese sticks" (Monterey Jack) and yogurt tubes to munch on. He can climb into his crib although actually, he can't climb out. I guess that's where, in my hypothetical scenario, he'd get stuck and not only would Tom find me unconscious on the floor, he'd find Tobey crying in the crib.
