Sad news
I think I'm in a little bit of shock, not quite absorbing the news. Either that or (hopefully not) getting used to hearing bad news.
Another of our childhood Cantonese gang friends suddenly passed away this morning. Except this time, it's from our generation.
Nathan was only 38 or 39, Andrew's age. When we were growing up, Nathan and Andrew played together while Stephanie and I did. My mom said that Nathan and Andrew weren't as close by the time high school came around but none of us were super close, having gone to different schools and the art of letter writing was starting to wear off. And off to college and starting our own lives. But coming back together for holidays was always nice and like Uncle Sandy, the Cantonese gang was a large part of the memories of my childhood.
I reconnected with Stephanie recently, after Eli(as) and Elisa were both born in July. We got to see each other in DC over New Year's, I got to meet her husband and daughter. Although I haven't seen Nathan since Matthew's wedding 8 years ago, my heart goes out to Stephanie and Auntie Sue and Uncle Norman. We're not supposed to see our children go first, but they have and I can't imagine what they're going through.
