Eli: Vacation update
Things new for/from Eli from this vacation:
Milk - Eli is now on all whole milk. On HRH Dr. Moore's advice, we gradually transitioned him from the $25/can of formula to $6/gallon organic whole over a few weeks time. Right before vacation (as in the day before) he transitioned to all whole milk which I was glad for...until I realized that maybe formula would have been more convnient for traveling as we could just bring hot water with us anywhere with a Thermos. With milk, we ended bringing cold milk in the Thermos but then had to ask for a cup of hot water everytime we wanted to warm his bottle. Too bad he had already rejected pure formula opting for yummy creamy milk instead. Next goal: train him to drink cold milk.
Volume 10 - Eli says everything at volume 10. "GA GA!" or "DA DA!" Whether happy or sad, it's always loud. This is problematic when we are at, say, afternoon tea in Victoria (thank goodness they gave us a back room) or at a nice Chinese restaurant in Vancouver (Canadian Chinese kids don't seem to run around as much as American Chinese kids). The "voice that carries" seems to run in my family but more so, his communication style of just bursting out I'm afraid might have been picked up from me in my outbursts with the kids. Must change or he will only get louder.
Toes - Dr. Moore said at 4 months that "something can be done" about the fact that Eli has really clammy feet. Ridiculous, I thought. How bad could clammy feet be? We found out after a few days of Eli wearing Tevas all day. Around day 2 in Seattle, Tom said that Eli had a poopy but alas, he didn't. What's that smell, he thought, and we realized, it was Eli's toes. Eli has some seriously SOUR smelling toes. I thought open toe sandals would be good for airing out clammy feet but I think all they did was not let them breathe, especially on the bottom. Socks that wick away moisture would probably be better in Eli's situation. I washed his (and Tobey's) feet and Tevas that night and thought we were set for the rest of the vacation. We couldn't make it past breakfast without the return of sour toes. Eli was in socks and Robeez the rest of the week. I wonder what treatment Dr. Moore was talking about because now I'm listening.
