Take back the morning

I'm starting to get into the groove of the new schedule with Tobey at preschool Tue/Thu mornings. The first couple of mornings were squandered by my excitement to have just one kid. And actually, sometimes my Thursday mornings will be at MTO. But with an off week at MTO and a relatively free week because of Eli's runny nose, I've rather enjoyed these quiet mornings.

After we shove Tobey out the door, Eli and I just continue on with the usual drill. Me shower, he eats breakfast. And soon after breakfast, Eli takes his morning nap. The other morning, with no Tobey noise around, Eli got a 1.5 hour morning nap. Unheard of usually. Meanwhile, I got a solid chunk of time to work on Chi's newsletter, now that we moved our desktop out of Eli's room.

This morning we actually had some time post-breakfast and pre-nap. So I took Eli on a little walk on our street. He's usually bound up in the stroller when we go on our post-dinner tricycle ride/walk with Tobey. But with my attention undivided and a beautiful morning, I got to let Eli have some sidewalk freedom. Not only that, I got to start training him on staying on the sidewalk, something that I'd never be able to do if I have to watch him and Tobey at the same time. I remember teaching Tobey about the sidewalk. Now it's Eli's turn.

I guess that's what these mornings are for. For me and Eli to pretend he's the only child once in a while.
