Improved Lego skills
I have to say that I think my Lego skills have really improved from my childhood as well as when we first started Legos with Tobey over a year ago.
What? You didn't think I was going to talk about Tobey, did you?
Tobey's latest thing these days is space shuttles, astronauts (especially his nebulizer that Dr. Moore creatively called the "astronaut mask") and launch platforms. And so from that, I think I've found my "muse" in Legos.
Before I start boasting about my latest creations, keep in mind we're still using Mega Bloks, not the humongous Duplos anymore but also not the traditional little Legos. I don't know if that makes my descriptions below sound more impressive or more ridiculous. But when I was a kid, I had no creativity whatsoever and always just tried to make a house with Legos. And when Tobey was into trains, I really couldn't take the train idea very far. But space stuff? Now we're talkin'!
A couple weeks ago, I made a set of twin solid rocket boosters and an external fuel tank so I can mimick them falling away from the shuttle, just like in the shuttle book. I also made a 3-stage rocket with a lunar module to mimick the one we read about in the Moonwalk book. Tonight I made a new and improved space shuttle, complete with a tail wing, sitting on a crawler so that it can go from the imaginary hangar to the imaginary launch platform. Of course my space shuttle had color coded rocket boosters and external fuel tank. And I had it dock with an ISS I made out of Legos too, that's International Space Station for those of you not as ga-ga over space stuff as me and Tobey. We even put an astronaut on the ISS.
When Tom came home from his night off, I was excited to show him my creations. You would have thought I was the 3-year old tonight.
