Cribs and future prediction
News this week:
The government outlawed drop-side cribs Wednesday after more than 30 infants died in them and millions were recalled.
In a unanimous vote, the Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the manufacture, sale and resale of the cribs, which have a side rail that moves up and down, allowing parents to more easily lift their child from the crib. Not that I have ever been truly ready to let go of our crib, but now if I were ready, I couldn't anyway.
So, fast forward 30 years when I may become a grandmother:
Me: Tobey (or Eli), here is your crib from when you were a baby. Do you want to take it for your baby?
Them: Mom. It's like 40 years old.
Me: It's a good crib, solid wood, we paid good money! And I picked the style to be timeless.
Them: But it's not even safe.
Me: You were FINE. No one got hurt in it.
Them: It was outlawed decades ago!
Me: You were FINE. That ban was because the cheap brands where you could see the rails. Daddy specifically looked for hidden hardware. It's Sorelli. It's Italian. It was good enough for you!
Them: I think we will buy our own crib.
Me: Nyeh! Parents these days!
It will totally happen, mark my words. Especially the nyeh.
(Notice the dropped side!)

omg, i had that same exact conversation with my ILs before nathaniel was born. they saved EVERYTHING from wayne and his brother. paint peeling and chipping and everything. it was pretty much a death trap for a baby, +30 years later... haha
LMAO!!!!!!!!! I LOVE This picture. I think we had the exact same bed. I was just gonna give it to my friend until I found out my hubby had donated long ago. I guess she couldn't use it anyway! And yes...he got rid of it as fast as he could. LOL!
