Eli: First tumble, first scare
(from an email to CC...)
We never made it to church this morning so that Tobey could sleep in (well, so we all could). We had a birthday party to go to at 10:30 in San Carlos. So although we have the valid excuse of a new baby and not making it to church, etc., the truth is, it's because we had a birthday party and we wanted Tobey to sleep well after last night's lovely dinner at your place. :-)
Actually, we were super late to the party because we had a scare this morning. Eli kicked himself off of our futon! We had him laying down, head near the edge of the futon, feet pointed to the back. I think Tom left a pillow at his feet so although our futon is deep, Eli was able to kick and fall off the futon onto the hard floor. Tom thinks he flipped too because when he found him crying on the floor, his head and feet were opposite what they were on the futon.
At first, we just looked for signs of injury like we would on Tobey: vomiting, lethargic, etc. (he did cry right away). But I was thinking maybe the rules are different for a newborn. So I called the advice nurse and she wanted us to come in for an appointment! Yikes! So we went to pediatric urgent care, waited for a while and were seen. Eli checked out okay and the doctor (Dr. Lewis) even gave us "free" advice about Eli's really gross looking cradle c(r)ap -- we were wondering why he was talking to us about cradle cap when we came in for a fall. But of course the most important thing is that he checked out okay -- he did give Eli a thorough lookover so we were happy with that.
We got to the party at 12:30, I nursed Eli in the car (he hadn't eaten for almost 6 hours!). The rest of the day was normal but the start was a little nerve racking. Not that it's his fault, but like with Tobey's first fall, Tom was watching Eli at the time (I was in the shower?). Poor guy (Tom), a lot of stress being the one on watch when accidents happen.
