A "nice" weekend

I can't quite find the word to describe this past weekend but we had a nice weekend. I thought about "homey" because but we did go out and do stuff. I thought about relaxed because we only had Friday night dinner with Thomas & Alice planned. I thought about "humble" because it seemed like we did nice little community things, nothing fancy schmancy like the Aquarium or anything.

Friday night we had a nice dinner at Thomas & Alice's. Since we haven't seen them in a while, I wondered if Tobey would feel like we're "dragging" him to dinners at people's houses that he hasn't seen in a while, kind of like how I felt when I was younger. But Tobey warmed up quickly, especially when seeing Joshua's train set. And Tobey and Joshua shared well and laughed together (as did we parents!). Besides a little fussiness from Eli and a Tobey meltdown when we left, it was a really enjoyable evening.

Saturday morning we took a gamble and went to a fire station open house that we heard about through our neighborhood association. We missed the window of opportunity to ride in the fire engine, but we got to enjoy the rest of the spread, including putting Tobey on a motorcycle, aiming a fire hose and getting up close to trucks and the training structure. Of course Tobey got a red plastic fireman's hat, a blast from the past from my childhood. Every kid's got to have one!

Sunday after church and an hour long lobby hangout with Jessica, Sung, Kyle and other passers by, we went on a whim to Santana Row to check out the Sunday farmers market. Turns out there was an Italian festival going on, which I joined after nursing Eli in the car. Tobey had time to walk around, we had good Italian food, we had a spot in the shade to eat, we got Fantasia, I got to go to Anthropologie, we had a perfect parking spot within 30 seconds of driving into the garage. It was these little things that happened on a beautiful day at an unexpected surprise and it was enough to make us feel good about being spontaneous.

The only tough thing about this weekend was Eli. Seems like his afternoon nap is a series of cat naps, leaving him fussy in the evening. Luckily his nighttime sleep is still good. But after reviewing some "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", I'm afraid of messing up a good thing. Must review/re-educate and get Eli sleep trained!
