Sick day
I was on the verge of calling in the reinforcement troop, Tom. At first, I thought that it would be unreasonable to get him to come home when the kids are sick when I'm home to care for them. When things get difficult, do I just need to learn how to handle it without the safety net or backup of Tom's relatively flexible work?
Then I thought about parents who both work and have kids in daycare. If even one of the kids is sick and sent home from daycare, one of the parents has to leave work for it. Just because I'm not "daycare" with a policy, doesn't mean that I might need to have Tom come home from work too.
Well, the way I'm getting through it is because Tobey is sadly low-maintenance. His fever is leaving him quite lethargic (and me quite worried) so he's not really getting into any trouble or even making a mess (besides his early bouts of vomit). And so if he's so low energy, then I should just station him comfortably on the couch and let him watch TV. He watched 2 Thomases in a row (on top of the 1 Thomas in the morning as we were getting ready to go to the doctor's) and then I stopped when I saw him bulge his eyeballs.
Every kid should have a memory of lying on the couch with water and crackers and watching TV when sick.
