Overnight potty

Last night (this morning) at 5AM, I woke up to the sound of a bedroom door opening. Then the sound of the bathroom light flicking on. Then the toilet cover opening. Could it be?

I climbed out of bed and there was Tobey, groggy eyes, peeing into the toilet! Our little independent Tobey! Well, until he needed a new diaper after he went to the potty but otherwise, he was quite independent!

It brings back memories of my own overnight peeing (is this too much info for some people?). I remember wearing plastic pants and everything because I used to wet my bed (don't remember what age this was). I remember sometimes even calling to my mom in the middle of the night, announcing that I was going to go pee pee, and she grumbled "okay" from her bed and I'd just go myself. I didn't need her help apparently, just her consent. I didn't like turning on the bathroom light because of the loud fan, letting the hall light light my way. And I didn't always like to flush the toilet because it somehow woke me up more than just going pee pee in my groggy state. There's something nice about just keeping things quiet in the middle of the night to help falling asleep again a bit easier.

Well, for Tobey's first time, we kept to the same routine, flushing (twice, I had to go too), washing hands, lights on, the whole bit. Tom and I debated whether to leave the hall light on from now on but since Tobey found his way to the bathroom in the dark this time (the bathroom light switch is a nightlight), then I didn't want to encourage any more bedtime pop ups by keeping the hall light on.

I'm glad for his independence (wonder whether he should move on to a pull up at night?) for I would surely be annoyed if he woke me up to announce he went pee pee, just like I used to. Of course him getting up to go to the potty by himself got me scared on the eve of him camping. I had visions of him just getting up, unzipping the tent and wandering in the woods in search of the potty by himself. I made Tom promise he would sleep in between Tobey and the door. I should have reminded him not to put ear plugs in.

We're nowhere near potty trained at night (his diaper was wet even though he peed in the potty) so I just bought some more size 6's for Tobey. But it's a step.
