Eli: Like clockwork

We're back in CA now and Eli is like clockwork. He woke up at 6:45AM this morning...

...East Coast time.

Despite efforts to keep Tobey and Eli awake a little longer to adjust to West Coast time (we went to Seb & Erin's house for an informal New Year's dinner with Eric & CC), Eli didn't sleep in one minute past his body clock. I woke to his cries at 3:45AM this morning disoriented, wondering what I'm supposed to do with that annoying noise coming from down the hall. It was not a pleasant welcoming of 2007.

He woke up every half hour after that after I repeatedly tried to put him back down (he has to be tired after a long flight and a New Year's party) but finally at 5:30AM, he woke up and played with my face instead of resting on my shoulder. I guess he's awake for good.

After some playtime and breakfast, he proceeded to have a 3 hour nap this morning, but woke up every 20-30 minutes during it. His inability to sleep longer disturbs me and makes me weary of how I'm going to survive the next few days, much less whether or not we've messed up his less than stellar sleeping habits already.

On a related note, Tobey woke up at 6:30 West Coast time which was reasonable. He could have slept more were it not for Eli's noise while playing. Both kids have got to be exhausted; they keep falling asleep on our short little local drives. For Eli it was the 5 minute drive between Eric/CC and Seb/Erin's house. For Tobey, it was unexpectedly this noon when we met friends for lunch 10 minutes away from our house.

I remember I used to pray 9-1-1 prayers to God whenever I needed Tobey to sleep better. It seemed to always work then. I haven't been as "faithful" with Eli but to get through this jet lag and beyond I think I'm going to need some Divine help.
