Day Two: Mommy's treat
The day started rough with Eli and Tobey tag teaming on whining or crying. But when Eli went down for a late morning nap, I was able to "breathe" again with just Tobey around. Mainly, I got a shower.
After a half hour nap (I will have to admit to myself that my days of the two-hour nap while Tobey napped are over) when both kids were down, they were back to tag teaming. After both settled, I decided that we needed to get out of the house, for my sanity as well as Tobey's. Plus, then Eli can sleep in the carseat as we tote him around.
So not only was I showered, I got out on a day when Tobey was all gooey. I was pretty proud of myself but more so I was proud of my boys. Tobey was angelic, being social and friendly at Footwear, etc. ("Shoelom!") sharing his snack with friendly women who were saying how cute he was. He also stayed in the double stroller at Shoe Pavillion giving me plenty of time to peruse. Eli was in and out of sleep, depending on if his binky fell out of his mouth. He actually never reached a real cry so it was a peaceful afternoon.
On a side note, yes, I dragged two kids out with one of them sick so I could go shoe shopping. It's not as superficial as it sounds. My left foot/heel as been bothering me and Tom said I should just invest in a good pair of shoes instead of just buying $10 Target specials. So I gave myself permission (after Tom essentially gave me permission) to treat myself to a real pair of shoes. I realized that Tom buys "good" shoes for himself and I never objected since he doesn't buy apparel very often. And of course I bought Tobey a $40 pair of Stride Rite like shoes that he wore for a few months. I realized that this whole shoe thing is so typical for many moms, taking care of husband and kids but not herself. So I got myself TWO pairs of shoes, both on sale but both good brands. Mommy's treat, the shoes as well as the afternoon.
The only bad side effect of the afternoon, I'm suspecting that Eli has caught Tobey's cold.
