Eli: The sippy

I think Eli got the hang of the sippy cup. There was a lot less struggle and indecision teaching him than with Tobey when we were experimenting for the first time, mainly should we keep the valve in (he doesn't realize there's water to sip out) or not (dripping water and choking)?

I decided to keep the valve in for Eli because I didn't want mess. And at first he didn't seem to get it but we didn't sweat it or push it. This morning there was clearly some sipping and noise coming from the cup signaling drinking. Plus, he made that face he makes with all new tastes, or in the case of water, lack thereof.

I think it also helps that he sees Tobey drinking water from various cups all the time. The privilege of the 2nd child (amongst all the ways he gets the short end).

You inspired me to try to graduate my 3-year-old to a regular cup last night. He did just fine, no spills. My pathologic obsession with mess control would have had Benji sipping away on sippy cups into his teens!
