The great experiment
Since Tom's parents will need our 3rd bedroom when they visit today, we're going to be daring and put Eli and Tobey in the same room. The crib is still there and Tobey is in his big boy bed. If the experiment fails miserably, at least I have daytime help to try to recover. If we're going to try it, it better be now.
My mom was the one that kind of planted the idea of trying now. She said they have to get used to each other some time if we're going to really attempt putting them together later and Andrew slept through all of Matthew's nighttime coughs and wheezes when they were younger.
I gained a little confidence when the other night Tom went into Eli's room multiple times to get stuff (since "Eli's room" is really our office too). I said he was playing with fire but Eli actually never cried. He did wake though and our little whack-a-mole popped his head up from his bassinet when Tom entered. But he fell back asleep without crying I guess.
I'm also not sure what will happen in the morning since Tobey still yells for us when he wakes up and Eli ranges from waking peacefully to crying. But seeing that they practically wake each other up now, I guess it can't be that much worse...although, Eli's been up for an hour now and Tobey is still sleeping despite having yelped Mommy an hour ago.
I think I'll still keep them separate for their afternoon nap. That's too sacred and sensitive a time for me to play with (plus, they don't always nap at the same time nor duration). They're both usually konked out at night but lighter sleepers for napsd.
We might also need to scoot the crib over since right now the crib and bed are butted right up next to each other. I am hopeful and also scared. Our kids seem to transition things pretty well but they've never really done it together.
