Halloween costume
I must say that some of these Halloween costumes are pretty darn cute. Where these parents find the time, I do not know. Some of them, admittedly, were made by relatives.
I'm still trying to figure out Tobey's costume for this year. Still would like to do an astronaut but unsure if I can get the underlying suit (probably just sweats) and helmet (although Angela gave me a good tip at Michael's). If the astronaut doesn't work, I saw an iPod in Family Fun and on Baby Blues that seems easy enough. Got tons of boxes in the garage.
And so a year ago (or even two) we were debating about Halloween, whether to participate because of what it stands for vs. the childhood tradition we all grew up with. Halloween does seem much scarier these days than in my day when it was all about the candy. But then again, I wasn't going through arts and crafts or party supply stores when I was a kid. Tobey did say he was a little scared of the decorations at Michael's.
But whether by default or just finding something fun to do, we did trick or treating last year which ended up being a fun neighborly thing to do. This year, we're having a neighborly Trick o' Treat After Party at our house with a very un-Halloween treat of Chinese jook to warm us up. At Tobey's preschool, which is based on Christian principles, they are having "Imagination Day" where kids dress up, have a parade and get a treat bag. Now the ante has been upped to have a decent costume for Tobey!
