Air conditioning
Maybe it's East Coast snobbery. But does anyone else think that Bay Area weather forecasts are really really bad? I thought so the minute I arrived. But I thought maybe I was a snob. And then I knew they were bad ("Today's highs from the low 60's to upper 80's") but then I cut the weather people some slack for the microclimates. But this morning, Yahoo! Weather for my town said high of 86. What was today's actual high? 95!
Okay. Had to get that off my chest. My sweaty, sticky chest (sorry for imagery).
Well, 86 or 95, it's been hot. My mom has always asked about us getting A/C and even gave us a large sum of money when we moved in with the hint that we could use it towards installing central A/C. Unable to deal with that big a project (amongst the others) while moving in, we deferred it and after talking to neighbors (and sticking it out) decided that aside from a couple weeks a year, you really don't need A/C here.
But now with kids, where comfort (for me as well as the kids) is key, retreating to the mall can only happen so many times a week and for so long. The kids still gotta nap in the hottest part of the day at home and even I can only spend so long in a mall (plus, some of our nicer malls are outdoors). So we caved in and bought a window A/C unit for our common area (which still doesn't quite help for naps but it's something).
I thought it was going to be an OOB simple procedure: buy it, take it out of box, plug in and voila, cool air. But it hasn't been and so it's probably to the mall tomorrow too. Good thing I have mallish things to get done.
Tomorrow's forecast is high of 88. I wonder if we'll break 100.

Hi Ang,
Haven't seen you guys for a long time. Steve and I got a central A/C ever since Keona was born. We are spoiled and now have it on every day.

My bro in Boston had the same problem in his previous home, boy those weeks in the summer were just miserable without A/C. Makes you kind of appreciate the general inclement weather in Maryland that justifies having central air everywhere!
For me, anything below 60 F is too cold. Anything above 80 F is too hot. It would be nice for us to have A/C so I can set the temperature so it's the same all day. I am contemplating getting A/C for our house too. Our heater is really old. So maybe when that breaks, we can replace it with heater/AC.
