An off day - addendum
The day ended today on a much better note than it started. Maybe because after Eli woke up (after just an hour or so of desperately needed nap), I pretty much ignored him, having had enough of him today. It was affirming to have Tom come out from working at home today and say that he has no idea how I made it through today with all of Eli's crying. Even though he was working and not on kid duty today, having that empathy really helps.
Tobey wakes up from his nap in a good mood. Not only that, he did a big poop and pee in the potty! Never mind that his bed is wet from his nap (I knew that with all that he drank and lunch and the fact that he wouldn't pee before nap, it was going to all come out somehow). I was looking forward to letting him pound the chicken (again) and help me cook dinner. A nice mommy-Tobey moment; I needed that.
After dinner, I got to show Tobey some space shuttle video footage which he was really interested. So much so that he accidentally peed while we were watching it, getting MY pants wet! He started to get really upset but the nice thing about this round of potty training is that Tobey seems to be much more agreeable to our little talks of encouragement to get him through the "wet days". Space shuttle, bath, a little bit of Niagara Falls on PBS and then a smooth bedtime.
Eli's bedtime wasn't so smooth but I'm thankful that Tom could take care of it. He was crying a lot and calmed down after a few minutes of Tom holding him. He cried again when Tom put him back down but he figured that Eli must be so exhausted, he's gotta poop out sometime. And he finally did. It's such a relieving feeling to have the kids be asleep. I don't know how some parents go through months and months or even years of sleep issues with their kids. I can barely get through one night.
And so the horrific day is finally over. I might have to put in earplugs tonight so I don't hear Eli's every cough. Tomorrow is hopefully a fun day (MTO at Rinconada pools!) and with help (June is meeting me there). Just one day at a time as we creep towards the weekend.
