Potty training - part 2, day 1
We're having another go at potty training this weekend. Long weekend. No vacations. A month before preschool. Do or die. I felt better this weekend about Tobey's emotional state and maturity to try potty training again. I felt better even myself, that I had a good week with Tobey and I wasn't starting the weekend already sensitive to blowing up at him for behavior. So far, all of our outlooks seem to be positive.
We started the morning with morning milk and picking out the first underwear. No surprise he picked the fireman underwear. We did some "fire drills", dry runs (literally) on what to do when we go to the potty. Tobey seemed to enjoy this and was happily cooperative for the 4 run throughs.
His first time with real pee, he went in his underwear. But contrary to when we tried in April, Tobey didn't start crying this time. We went to the potty (nothing left), changed underwear and continued on with the day without trauma.
The next 2-3 times he went, he'd let us know when there's pee pee and he might wet a little bit, but he could still pee in the potty. Luckily, we have our 6 pairs of underwear plus another 4 that Pora just handed off to us plus the emergency absorbent training underwear. Since he went through 5 pairs of underwear before 10AM, I started some laundry.
The last 2 times he went, he was able to tell us and keep a dry diaper! Tobey seems to have a pretty small bladder. He seems to go every 15 minutes or so. Could it have been the watermelon we had at breakfast? I figure, if we're going to bunker up in the house all day for training, might as well get the most out of it so I cut up some watermelon!
Tom's been doing most of the interaction although Tobey did pee pee with me twice. Tom's also spending some great time interacting with Tobey on non-pottying times. We've read all 3 potty books already and they're now "camping" and talking in the Thomas tent.
