Tobey: Space shuttle

We were so absorbed into potty training Tobey last weekend that we forgot that the launch of space shuttle Discovery would have been totally cool to Tobey. Tom's mom, knowing that Tobey likes the space shuttle, joked, "What kind of parents are you?"

Well, we're the kind of parents with high speed internet. Woohoo! Google video gave us a bunch of videos to watch of the launch. The one I like the best is this one:

It has the jettison of the rocket boosters and the fuel tank, although there are a few minutes of "dead time" where the shuttle is just a star on a gray background. Still, Tobey loves watching it. I think we saw a more condensed version of the launch without that dead time but it didn't show as much of seeing the earth shrink. But I like this one because it's "real time". Tobey's watched it no less than 10 times by now. I also learned a lot like just how fast it's accelerating, the fuel consumption, and the emergency landing location in Spain. Very cool. Now we'll just have to remember to watch the landing.
