Eli: Stinky ear wax
Eli smells. He stinks. I lovingly but honestly say this. He usually smells like wet dog because of his drooling (lots of teeth coming in) and sucking on his two fingers all the time. His bed sheet stinks because he sleeps on his tummy and drools and cries. Once in a while, he'll have a mildewy smell around his neck and I know, I didn't change his bib or his shirt often enough that day. But even with all this, he can get away with it because he's so darn cute.
But, starting yesterday, I started smelling cheese. Bad cheese. Around his ear. It's amazing that I can even smell something new above all the other smells. At first I figured I haven't washed his face or around his ears or maybe his clothes smelled. But today he still smelled and Tom noticed gunk in his left ear.
After wiping it with a warm washcloth and confirming that the smell was the gunk, I Googled and found some mentions of how ear wax smells bad. Of all the gross things children routinely do, poop, vomit, stinky feet (Eli's specialty), this somehow grosses me out even more. And like flies to poop, I had to smell his cheesy ear a few more times today, to see if it was still there and to see if it was as bad as I thought it smelled.
All lightness aside though, Tom read that one sign of ear infection could be a foul smell, which was a possibility that I considered before I read about stiny ear wax. And while Eli didn't seem to be bothered by his ear nor has he had a fever in the last two days, right before bed I noticed him sticking his finger in his stinky ear. So I guess we'll watch for signs if he's developing an ear infection, poor guy.
Poor stinky guy.
