The fun house
We brought toys on the plane ride here to my parents' but assumed that in this new environment of my parents' house, there's enough new stuff for Tobey to poke around at and entertain himself with.
What I didn't realize that besides the new environment, there's plenty here to really entertain and even enrich him. Besides my parents' elevator (!), we've now found toys Matt-n-Kat left behind (including a floor jigsaw puzzle!) and in the basement, a lot of the old games that I grew up with. Klomp-It, Aggrevation, Troke, Hi-Ho Cherry O.
It didn't dawn on me until I started shopping for toys for friends' kids' birthdays that the idea of a game including following the rules is really advanced. So I thought there wouldn't be games for kids until 5 years old. But I found an old favorite: Ting-A-Ling(a) Bingo from my days (picture bingo with a spinner that jingles) and found that Tobey can play! Granted, we signal when to take turns to spin, we are still teaching him the concept of 3-, 4- and 5-in-a-row. But it's our first "family" game. We even had a board going for Eli.
I look forward to future visits here to my parents and introducing Tobey and Eli to my old games. And we'll see if they can dethrone me, the Kween of Klomp-It.
